Thousands of bees invaded a home near the Australian city of Newcastle and left thick walls of honeycomb in the wall cavities, according to local media.

Sharing her videos and photos with Reuters, Megan Sutherland said she heard the buzzing on Saturday (September 23) outside her house and then saw a 'cloud' of bees swarming.

She then found that the bees had set up their hive in the wall cavities of her house. Sections of the plaster walls had to be cut open to remove the bees and honeycomb.

Cost of repair at this stage is still unknown.

Sutherland said she has collected around 30 kilograms of honeycomb and several jars of honey.

In an interview with Sunrise, she said the hive had probably been there around 2 years. However, it was only very recently that she heard the buzzing outside her house.
